About SVT Play

SVT Play is a Video On-Demand streaming platform owned and operated by Sveriges Television. It was launched on December 14, 2006 to provide on-the-go coverage for all SVT channels.

The platform has provided access to all of its content within Sweden’s geographic limits, although some of the shows available to stream can be viewed outside of this country. News, entertainment shows, contents shows, sports, TV series, movies, and general interest programs have been available on this platform since its launch. All shows and events aired on this platform have been made available in on-demand format for a limited period of time thanks to the catch-up feature included in the platform.

Speaking about sports, SVT Play has covered events regarding disciplines such as ice hockey, football, basketball, cycling, athletics, and winter sports. Some of these sports have only been covered via highlights, but SVT Play has also tried to include live coverage of sports such as hockey and football.

Football coverage on SVT Play has included games for the top Swedish football league, the Allsvenskan, as well as games for the Swedish National Team. Additional coverage has included highlights’ shows for the league, and press conference coverage for the Blagult.

Since its launch, SVT Play has been available on the most popular web browsers. In recent years, an app was developed and launched to give access to all the shows aired by its sister networks. The app works with mobile phones and tablets with Android and iOS. Added to that, over-the-top streaming services such as Apple TV have included SVT Play among the options for their users to watch.
