About SVT 1

SVT1 is a Swedish television channel that is owned and operated by Sveriges Television. It was launched on September 4, 1956 as Radiotjänst TV. The network was renamed as Sveriges TV in 1957, but that name would only last 12 years, when the company decided to name it TV1. Sveriges TV would keep that name until 1987, when they rebranded the channel to Kanal 1. The channel would undergo a new rebranding in 1996, when it would settle with the name SVT1.

Over the years, SVT1 has been labeled as a general entertainment channel, with magazine shows, news, contest shows, sports, debate shows, and documentaries. In recent times, SVT1 has also included regional shows to boost its coverage in certain regions of the country. The channel has also been known for its coverage of live events such as the Nobel Prize gala and the Eurovision song contest.

Speaking about sports, SVT1 has covered events regarding disciplines such as ice hockey, football, basketball, cycling, athletics, and winter sports. Some of these sports have only been covered via highlights, but SVT1 has also tried to include live coverage of sports such as hockey and football in their regular grid.

Football coverage on SVT1 has included games for the top Swedish football league, the Allsvenskan, as well as games for the Swedish National Team. Additional coverage has included highlights’ shows for the league, and press conference coverage for the Blagult.

SVT1 was launched as a Standard Definition channel, but the network became a full HD channel on September 20, 2010. Downscaled versions of this channel might be available in some regions.
