SBS is one of five free-to-air channels in Australia. It is owned and operated by the Special Broadcasting Service, and it was launched on October 24, 1980. It is considered as the main channel for the Special Broadcasting Service since its target audience is not limited to one specific demographic.

SBS has focused its content on international news, current affairs, educational programs, drama, comedy, films, sports, and documentaries. One of the main differences between this channel and some of its competitors is that SBS airs a significant portion of its broadcasts in languages other than English, while also airing foreign-language films.

Speaking about sports, SBS’ coverage has focused on international sports rather than offering popular sports in Australia. In the past, SBS has owned broadcasting rights for such events as the Tour de France, the Summer Olympics, and the Super Bowl, to name a few.
