It is owned by the Corporación Catalana de Medios Audiovisuales, while its operation is on the hands of the Televisión de Cataluña. While the channel can be considered as a general entertainment service, most of its content has to do with sports or with the promotion of this activity in the region.

The channel was first launched for test audiences on October 18, 2010, but its official launch came on February 5, 2011. The channel’s first broadcast featured Barcelona and Atlético Madrid, and that led to most of the content being sports-related, with a special focus on football in the region.

While most of the content in this channel is sports related, Esport 3 has not purchased broadcasting rights. Most of the content in this channel has been related to additional football coverage such as highlights shows, post-match analysis, and more.

Some of the content aired by this channel has been related to domestic competitions such as La Liga, the Spanish Segunda División, and top tournaments such as the UEFA Champions League.
